CDSA Monthly Update: February 2025
Welcome to your February CDSA e-update - where we share news and updates about Compute and Data Services Alliance (CDSA) initiatives, services, tools, and enhancements.
Duke Libraries has a new blogpost featuring McCall Pitcher, their new data visualization consultant, who joined the Libraries in November. CDSA supported McCall’s hiring, which increased the Libraries' capacity to consult in this high-demand area.
Want to see who else has joined the CDSA team? Check out our CDSA New Staff deck!
Duke Data Attic is now in pilot – we are seeking pilot users who will get 2TB of storage at no cost. Email oitresearchsupport@duke.edu to join the pilot.
We have an upcoming info session on DCC access for PhD students on February 19 at 1pm Please register and join us! The Duke Compute Cluster (DCC) is a general-purpose high performance/high-throughput installation, equipped with software used for a broad array of research projects. Duke PhD students now receive an annual no-cost allocation to computing and data storage resources on the DCC. This 1-hour information session will provide PhD students with a brief overview of the DCC and the basic tasks required to login, transfer files, and use basic computing services (Jupyter, RStudio, Matlab) on the DCC.
Pratt has recently partnered with Research Computing to invest in expanding the capabilities of the DCC for high-performance computing education and research. As part of the investment, faculty will have hours on a select number of compute nodes for use in their courses. OIT is currently (2025 Spring, Summer, and Fall) offering these dedicated resources for:
- 500-level or higher course with heavy computational needs
- ML / AI courses
- By request of the instructor
Once approved, Pratt courses will have priority in the queue, followed by non-Pratt courses and then the research scavenger queue. You can learn more about course access to the DCC here. Pratt instructors interested can email OITResearchSupport@duke.edu to request access for their course.
Are you curious about learning more about CDSA, or know groups they could benefit from a presentation? We can join team or department meetings to share more information.
