Research Integrity Associate
Matt joined the Duke Office of Scientific Integrity in July 2024. In 2022, he earned his doctorate in chemistry from Dartmouth College, where he studied the thermodynamics of human and bacterial metal-protein complexes, including work with highly toxic mercury, arsenic, and lead compounds. After completing his graduate studies, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the pharmacology department at UNC Chapel Hill, focusing on the intersection of iron homeostasis and RNA-dependent gene regulation.
Matt has transitioned from bench-side research and experimental design in the basic and biomedical sciences to educating and training on research integrity and compliance. Drawing on his experience in research labs that emphasized best practices, he now works to support labs across Duke in achieving higher standards of research quality, fostering strong training environments, and cultivating a culture that supports researchers at all career stages.
