Advisors

Duke undergraduate and graduate students, and post-doctoral and visiting fellows will need to identify a faculty advisor on their request for protocol approval applications. The IRB cannot approve a protocol application for a student or fellow without a faculty advisor listed on the protocol. While a student/fellow may be the primary researcher on the protocol, the IRB considers the faculty advisor to be the responsible investigator.

Faculty advisors must attest that they will take responsibility for the conduct of the research by signing the assurance section of the protocol application.

Students and fellows should meet with their advisor to go over drafts of the protocol before submitting it to the IRB.
