Duke University is undertaking a comprehensive review of its research and innovation offices that provide administrative assistance, compliance oversight, and support services across the institution.
Purpose
The purpose of this review is to create a more agile, future-focused model that advances the University’s mission, anticipates emerging needs, and positions Duke to lead in an evolving research landscape.
This effort will include:
- Coordinated, campus‑wide evaluation that draws on multiple perspectives
- Internal research support units and closely affiliated offices will assess their current structures and operations
- Members of the research community are invited to provide direct input on needs and opportunities
- An internal review committee, an external review committee, and an independent consulting firm will then synthesize these findings to develop recommendations that align Duke’s research support model with its long‑term goals
Input from the research community is essential to shaping Duke’s long-term research support model. There are two ways the community can provide input on this initiative:
1. Provide Free Text Feedback
Use this form to share your perspectives on current challenges, opportunities for improvement, and ideas for strengthening these functions
2. Participate in Focus Groups
The Office for Research and Innovation is hosting a series of virtual focus groups for faculty and staff to participate in the review by providing input on various administrative and support areas. Focus groups are open to all faculty and unit-based research staff (central office input will be gathered separately).
