A cardiologist who led the GUSTO clinical trial of the clot-busting drug TPA in heart attack, which laid the foundation for Duke to lead massive clinical trials and to form the Duke Clinical Research Institute. Califf was the founding director of DCRI, Director of the Food and Drug Administration (2016-17) and vice chancellor for clinical research at the School of Medicine. He left Duke in 2020 to lead clinical policy and strategy at Verily, an Alphabet (Google) company. |
