Slideshow: Life Under the Sea

Duke Marine Lab Director and Alvin submarine pilot Cindy Van Dover was drawn to the hot springs at the bottom of the ocean by her curiosity about life. Would there be sea monsters there? So far, she hasn’t found any, but there are some pretty weird critters.

It wasn't always smooth sailing, unfortunately, but 15 students and Duke Marine Lab Director Cindy Van Dover recently learned about zooplankton and other sea creatures fresh from the briny deep aboard the research vessel Corwith Cramer.
